Ownby, James Eugene “Jim” –age 64, of South Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Graduate of Harrison Chilhowee Academy and a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. Jim was a crane operator and worked for Metlers Crane, C. Reed Davis, and Barnhart Crane and Rigging. He was a member of Local 917 International Union of Operating Engineers. Preceded in death by father, Willie Ray Ownby; sister, Margaret Francis Vann and daughter, Rene´ Loveday.

Survivors include wife, Doris Ann Ownby; son, Jim and wife, Greta Ownby; daughters, Teresa and husband, Michael Underwood; Karen and husband, Dana Archer; Bobbie Jo and husband, Frankie Denton; Sherry and husband, Dennis Wittenbarger; son, Tom Mills; grandchildren, Jay and Jacob Ownby; Jason and Tyler Underwood; Colt Porterfield; Trina Archer; Frankie and Brittany Denton; Chassity and Steve Loveday; Blake Wittenbarger; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Braden McCarter; Madison Loveday; mother, Viola N. Ownby; brothers, Willie Paul and wife, Jeanette; Carlos R. and wife, Carol; Donnie Wayne and wife, Lisa Ownby; several nieces and nephews; special friends Morris Moore and Ralph Sams.
Service
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with funeral service to follow at 8 PM, Rev. Donnie Ownby officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland South Cemetery on Thursday for 1 PM interment services. Pallbearers will be: Jason Underwood; Frankie Denton, Jr.; Colt Porterfield; Jay Ownby; Steve Loveday; and Scott Ownby. Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Mills.
