Armour Terrell Spence Jr., (Terrell)
77 years old, of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 21, 2004 in Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Spence was a well known rancher and cattleman throughout the Western United States.
He was preceded in death by his father, Armour Terrell Spence; mother, Marcella Spence. He is survived by his wife, Ophelia; brother, Stanford Spence of Austin, Texas; daughter, Mary Richmond of Phoenix Arizona; son, Jeff Spence of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Valerie Dixon of Austin, Texas; son, John David Spence of Arroyo Grande, California; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A beloved father, husband, and friend, Mr. Spence was born December 6, 1926 in Tucson, Arizona. He attended several elementary schools and high schools in Arizona during his father's ranching and political careers. Mr. Spence enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and studied at the University of Arizona afterwards. He was a charter member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association which was formed in the 1940's. Involved in the ranching and cattle industries for over 50 years, he was a dedicated businessman known for his uncompromising integrity. He owned and managed cattle across Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Colorado. Mr. Spence was an avid horseman and enjoyed the competitive sports of team penning and team sorting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him; he typified the "Great American Cowboy".
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Spence's name to the PRCA/Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, 101 Pro Rodeo Drive, Colorado Springs, CO, 80919.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY AND CEMETERY, 5801 E. Grant, Tucson.
