Charles “Ed” Edwin Whaley, age 86 of Gatlinburg, TN, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Ed loved God, family, friends, horses, good food and never met a sweet he didn’t like. He had a good sense of humor and was joking around until he left to be with God.
When his father passed away, Ed inherited the Edgepark Inn at age 15. He enlarged it and it later became the Edgepark Motel. After selling it in 1980 he retired shortly and then built the Homestead House in 1982. Ed served as Treasurer, Secretary and Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg. He was past President of the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce. He was a philanthropist and a fundraiser for Gatlinburg schools. But his favorite roles in life were being a husband, father, and papaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Whaley and Mary Whaley Stapleton and step-father Hubert Stapleton; brother, H.K. Stapleton; and granddaughter, Mary Nicole Kimble.
