WE SALUTE
Teddy A. Ogle Awarded Bronze Star Medal With "V" Device for Heroism
Teddy A. Ogle, son of Mrs. Hattie Ogle of Slate Springs, was awarded the Bronze Star resulting from action in Vietnam on Nov. 5, 1966.
While serving as a squad leader with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry, Seargent Ogle was leading Company A in a search and destroy operation in the dense jungle near the Dau Tieng, Republic of Vietnam, when suddenly it was confronted with a heavy volume of enemy automatic rifle and machine gun fire from heavily fortified, camouflaged bunkers, The company immediately sustained numerous causalities.
Sgt. Ogle realizing the dangerous situation, organized his men and directed their gunfire into these enemy positions.
He continuously exposed himself as he lead his men in an attempt to overrun these enemy fortifications, but they were driven back by the devastating fire.
Sgt. Ogle observing the effectiveness of the enemy firing upon his men, crawled into the enemy machine gun firing lane, with total disregard for his personal safety, succeeded in destroying the enemy machine gun and killing several Viet Cong with hand grenades.
His acts of personal bravery in destroying the enemy machine gun proved to be crucial toward the success of the operation.
Sgt. Ogle's outstanding display of personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 27th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
Sgt. Ogle's reaction to this episode was, in his own words: "Just call me lucky."
