  William McGauhey was an early settler of the Boyds Creek area. Mrs. Beulah Linn, Sevier County Historican, recalls many years ago seeing a sign indicating McGauhey's Fort near this location. Somewhere in this area lies the remains of William McGauhey's wife, Elizabeth Laughlin, who died about 1804. The exact loction is now lost.
