William McGauhey was an early settler of the Boyds Creek area. Mrs. Beulah Linn, Sevier County Historican, recalls many years ago seeing a sign indicating McGauhey's Fort near this location. Somewhere in this area lies the remains of William McGauhey's wife, Elizabeth Laughlin, who died about 1804. The exact loction is now lost. The McGauhey familiy moved to Alabama in the early 1800's...
