LANE, HELEN MAE - 77, an original Oak Ridger, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Fort Sander's Regional in Knoxville. Born on November 25, 1927 to parents Handy and Ollie Ann Ridenour Stooksbury. Mrs. Lane attended Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lane was a wonderful mother and homemaker to her family, as well as a devoted Democrat who loved politics. An original Oak Ridger, by which she was proud, raised her family in Oak Ridge. Prior to becoming a homemaker she served as a nurse's aid at Oak Ridge Hospital.
Preceded in death by: parents; daughter, Patricia; sisters, Rethal Smith, Ruth Cole, Mary Nell Shoopman; brothers, Al and Everett Stooksbury.
Helen is survived by: her devoted husband, Newell L. Lane, Sr., Oak Ridge; daughters, Gail Armstrong, Atlanta, Connie Lane-Douglas and husband Noel, Oak Ridge; sons, Newell L. Lane, Jr. and wife, Judy of Oak Ridge, Steven R. Lane and wife, Rene of Oak Ridge, Scott Lane and
wife, Denise of Clinton. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandchildren, David Armstrong and wife, Stacey, Stacey Armstrong, Brandee Hoglund and husband Erik Michelle Merz, Adam Merz, Halston Lane, Kolbi Lane, Brittney Lane, Jordan Lane, Erin Douglas, Bailee Lane, Jackson Lane; great grandchildren, Karsten Hoglund, Jake and Tyler Armstrong; many nieces and nephews; special friends of the family: Steve Whaley and his son, Chris of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. George Lane of Atlanta, Becky Harper, Al Carter, Ralph Roberts, Linda Clayton. McKay and Dr. Manley Jordan.
The funeral service will be held tonight, 8 pm in the Chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. The family requests that memorials be made in the form of donations to: Boys' Club of Oak Ridge, PO Box 4021, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-4021; Girls' Inc., PO Box 7040, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-7040; the American Lung Association of Tennessee, One Vantage Way, Suite C-250, Nashville, TN 37228. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, 1 pm at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 pm at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
