Ridenour, Emily Crea--age 88 of Knoxville, died at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Shannondale Healthcare Center. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church, Knoxville.
Retired from service as a missionary of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, she worked for 45 years in Colombia, South America, first as a Christian education and music promoter and school director in Baptist churches, and then for 35 years as Professor of Christian Education and Music in the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Cali, Colombia, in the founding of missions and development of churches in Colombia, and in the activities of the Colombian Baptist Convention. Her influence has been extended through hundreds of her students from Colombia and other South American countries who serve in Christian ministry throughout the Americas. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Cali and led in programs of Christian education, music and missions both in the church and its extended ministry.
She also served as promoter of Woman?s Missionary Union work and as treasurer of the Colombian Baptist Mission and of the Colombian Baptist Convention. She was author of four published books, two on the history of Baptist missions in Colombia. She was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and honored there as a distinguished alumna. She was also a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Preceded in death by her father, Dr. George L. Ridenour; mother, Sara Ella Miller Ridenour; and beloved second mother, Agnes Whipple Ridenour.
Survivors: cousins; extended Christian family in Colombia and in the USA, and her missionary family made up of colleagues and their children who lovingly called her "Aunt Crea."
Family and friends will meet at Stevens Mortuary 1:00 p.m. Monday to go in procession to Sunset Cemetery in Clinton for a 2:00 graveside service and interment. Rev. Tim Guthrie officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Arlington Baptist Church, 1928 Fairmont Blvd., Knoxville, Tennessee 37917, to be used for Missions, or designated for the International Baptist Theological Seminary, Cali, Colombia, as a memorial of her dedicated service there.
