Eliza Scott Finchum, age 84 of Newport went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Baptist Convalescent Center. She was a lifetime member of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church where she served as church secretary. She worked at Stokely Van Camp 18 years and retired from BASF (Enka). She was an avid sports fan, supporting her family in all their participating sport. Eliza was preceded in death by her husbands, James “Clarence” Scott and Burnett “Pete” Finchum; parents, Homer and Lizzie McMahan Stuart; brothers, Frank, Carl and Charles Stuart; sons –in-law, Harold Russell Medford and Jack Hudson;. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Medford Hudson of Newport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy and Sandra Stuart, Dandridge, Lloyd and Barbara Stuart, Fredericksburg, VA; grandson, Chris Medford; granddaughter, Melissa Medford; great grandson, Joshua M. Hall all of Newport; host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Thursday, August 28, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ben Whitted officiating. Burial will be 1:00 pm, Friday, August 29, 2008 in Ray’s Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
