Ollie Leroy (Buddy) Whaley, 82, of Duncan passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, in Duncan. Services were held Monday, April 14, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Marlow, with Brother Mike Peercy officiating. Burial was in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow. Buddy was born Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1925, in Madison, Alabama, to William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley. After his schooling, he joined the United States Army and served during World War II as a combat infantryman. He had lived in the Marlow and Duncan areas for the past 43 years. He retired from Lone Star Gas after 18 years. Buddy married the former Billie June Bodine on Aug. 15, 1947, in Wellington, Texas. He enjoyed sharing love and laughter with his family, as well as fishing, picnics and gardening. Buddy loved his great-grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW post in Marlow. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Billy, Ben, Jim and John Whaley; and four sisters, Minnie Benton, Ida Neal, Lela Taylor and Alleen Palmer. Survivors include his wife, June Whaley, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Royce L. and Darlene Whaley of Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce A. and Kelly Pogue of Edmond; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and another on the way; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Effie Palmer of Duncan, Maxine and Billy Branam of Marlow, Christine and Fred Massey of Burns, Tenn., and Mattie Whaley of Lawton.
