George Ross "Joe" Schultz , 86, of Athens, died Monday night, July 19, 2010, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Jack and Eva Wade Schultz , and was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Mary Layman; and three brothers, Hoyle Schultz , Ray Schultz and Johnny Schultz .
He was of the Baptist faith, and was a route salesman with Mayfield Dairy Farms until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was wounded and was a P.O.W. in the European Campaign.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Armeda Bohannon Schultz of Athens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy R. and Ann Schultz of Athens, and George Robert and Penny Schultz of Lenoir City; two sisters, Sue Frye of Athens, and Bertie Tolliver of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Denise Martin, Gayla Patterson, Tim Schultz and Stacie Witkowski; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Pastor Darrin Long officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Clearwater Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Schultz , Rob Martin, David Patterson, Chuck Witkowski, Jack Hutsell and Eddie Bohannon.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Athens Christian Church, 802 Matlock Ave., Athens, TN 37303.
