John H. Caton, age 83, of Maryville, devoted Christian and loving husband and father, passed away Friday, October 17, 2003 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice from pulmonary fibrosis.
Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II.
Returning from the war, he resumed his job at ALCOA Aluminum Co. where he retired with 42 years service in the West Plant roll show. During his retirement he enjoyed becoming a master woodworker and traveling around the country with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by father, Nelson Caton; mother, Ollie Caton.
Survivors: wife, Julia Kerley Caton of 61 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Buford Whaley of Maryville, Beverly and Larry Doolittle of Greenback; grandson and wife, Rhett and Beth Walker of Huntsville, Ala.; great-granddaughters, Alex, Reese and Riley, the light of his life; son, John Caton of Yoakum, Texas; grandson, Matt Caton of Yoakum, Texas; great-granddaughter, Carson Caton; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and John Manning; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Johnny Lu Caton.
Family and friends will meet at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon Oct. 20, 2003, for entombment service with Rev. Glenn Riddle officiating.
Military honors will be provided by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Residential Hospice at 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, Tn., 37938.
Friends may call at their convenience from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
