Rule, Mrs. Ralph (Jewell), of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2005 at NHC St. Marry’s. Church has been a major part of Jewell’s life. She worked with young people for 27 years as a member of First Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN, in connection with Tennessee Tech College and was known at the church as “Mama Rule” to the students. After moving to Knoxville, Jewell became a member of Meridian Baptist Church. She has served on various committees, taught Sunday School classes, was past Director of Adult V and one of the founders of the senior citizens group. Jewell was an active volunteer for 35 years at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee, serving as President and working in all the services of the Auxiliary. In addition, she was a member of the State Auxiliary Council of Tennessee Hospital Association for eight years, serving a two-year term as State Auxiliary President, traveling all over the state to help organize new auxiliaries. After serving as President, Jewell was the State Auxiliary News Editor for two years. Jewell was awarded the “Meritorious Service Award” from the state in 1982 for her support of better health care service for the people of Tennessee. In 1992 she was awarded from Tennessee Hospital Association the highest award, “Presidents Award”. After serving a 15-year term on the Board of Trustees at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee, on November 25, 1992 she was made “Board Member Emeritus”. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph Rule.
Survivors
Survivors include nieces, Mrs. Pat Davis and Mrs. Jeanie Luttrell; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Harben and great nieces and nephews.
Service
. Family and friends will meet Saturday, 1:45 PM in the front parking lot of Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel and proceed to the gravesite in Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 2 PM Graveside Service with Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, 137 Blount Ave., Knoxville, TN 37920 or Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville, TN 37920. Friends may call at their convenience Friday at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, between 4PM and 8PM or Saturday morning.
