James “Luther” Reed, age 89 of Sevierville, passed away July 3, 2006. A veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater with Battery B-794 automatic weapons battalion as an anti-aircraft artillery crewman. One of the first sidewalk artists in Gatlinburg in the 1950’s, he was a lifelong cabinet maker and an avid outdoorsman and gardener. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Sevierville.
He was preceded in death by parents Rual and Christine Reed, wife Marjorie Reed, daughter Maxine Nelson, brothers Perry, Frank, Mark, and Connie Reed, and sisters Gertrude McCulley and Imogene Lindsay.
