Wilbur Houston Reed was born August 21, 1929 and passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at UT Medical Center following a fall at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel and Christine Reed; brothers, Perry, Luther, Frank, Mark and Connie; sisters, Gertrude and Imagene; and daughters, Betty Diane and Mary Katheryn Reed Wingate.
Wilbur loved his Lord, his family, and his church. He was a longtime devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Sevierville. He loved playing music and singing; he led the choir at his church for many years. Training and showing Tennessee Walking horses was his hobby. Wilbur was in the construction business for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and John Thomas; sons and daughters-in-law; Karl and Denise Reed, Kent and Lora Reed; and Ricky and Andrea Wingate. Grandchildren are Brian and Tina Thomas, Alexis Thomas, Jeffrey and Zabrina Reed, Robin and Jeremy McGosh, Jennifer and Stephen Huskey, Keaton Wingate; great-grandchildren, Josh Thomas, Bailey Thomas, Ethan McGosh and Connor McGosh; sister, Mollie Douglass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Second Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 4251, Sevierville, TN 37864.
The family will receive friends 4-7 PM Wednesday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Allen and Rev. Ray Lindsey officiating.
