  [S4] Knoxville News-Sentinel (Tennessee), 7 Jul 2009. MATTHEWS, MR. CONNIE LYNN - age 71, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice from complications of cancer. Mr. Matthews was of the Baptist faith and was a member of, The Sons of Revolution and First Families of Tennessee. For many years, he was an electrical supply salesman in Knoxville and surrounding areas. He started his career at Westinghouse as a stock boy at a very young age. Preceded in death by beloved parents, Philmore and Ruth (Monroe) Matthews; beautiful sister, Mrs. Margie Proffitt; first wife, Peggy Lynn Sowers Matthews; and brother-in-law, H.G. Smith; grandparents, William H. and Lillie M. Matthews, and Samuel C. and Pauline H. Monroe; survived by children, Kelly Lynn Sternberg and Bradley Lynn Matthews; grandchildren; devoted sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Willie and Jack (Col. US Air Force, Retired) Westbrook, Mrs. Phyllis "Blackie" Smith, and Carole Jeanne Atkins; nieces; nephews; and many friends and caring neighbors; and a very special loving friend, Ms. Marjorie Lensgraf. As per Mr. Matthews' request, a private burial was held with Rev. Thurman Pate officiating.
