SMITH, PHYLLIS MATTHEWS - of Knoxville, born of October 3, 1931 and died peacefully, Sunday, January 31, 2010, with her family by her side, in Knoxville, TN. Phyllis was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, Knoxville and a former member of the First Baptist Church, Kingston. Phyllis, a long-time resident of Knoxville and Kingston, graduated from Central High School in 1948. She worked for many years in Oak Ridge. Phyllis had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed her many friends. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members including her brother, Connie Matthews, who recently passed away. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harmon Gay Smith. Phyllis is survived by her three children, Kim Smith (Janice), Tami Morgan, and Shawna P. Smith (Mitch); her six grandchildren, Ben Smith, Clarissa Smith Long, Erin Morgan Lovely, Addy Morgan, and Aslan and Gracie Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Ian and Jude Long; her two sisters, Willie Westbrook (Jack) and Carol Atkins; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:30-3:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 3rd at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church with a Celebration of her life to follow in the Worship Center, Rev. Kent Williams, Jack Westbrook, and Jack Easterday officiating. A private burial service will be held on Thursday at the Veteran's Cemetery in Knoxville.
