Ben King, 79, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Tennova Care in Knoxville, Tennessee from complications resulting from an automobile accident. Ben was born November 4, 1933 to Andy and Betty (Maples) King in Sevier County, Tennessee, the eldest of nine children. He graduated valedictorian of his class from Pittman High School in 1951.
Ben served his country in the U. S. Navy. He was married to his beautiful bride, Marjorie Cogdill, on November 9, 1957 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Ben retired from the Federal Highway Administration, and he was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He was also the past president of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) Chapter 1678 and a member of the Free Masons.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J.B. King.
Ben is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son Doyle and wife Cambrai; daughter Cindy and fiancé Clay; grandchildren Chastidyi Parrott and husband Ian, Andy, and Austin; brothers, Merion, Murrell, Rex and Dewey; sisters Shirley Agee, Carolyn Stinnett, and Deborah McElyea; many much-loved nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Methodist Church in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Funeral service 11 AM Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 104. . The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
