Lizzie L. Whaley , 77, a resident of Peshastin for the past 56 years and a former resident of Sevier County Tennessee, died Friday morning, May 30 2003, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center.
She was "grandma caught" on the 26th of May 1926 at the family home in Sevier County, Tennessee. Born, Lizzie L. Dockery to Grant and Dicie Lou (Hicks) Dockery.
She grew up and received her early education there in the Hills of Eastern Tennessee.
On May 25, 1946 she married Millard Whaley in Sevier County and on February 19, 1947 they moved to Peshastin Washington. Lizzie worked at the Peshastin Fruit Growers during the fruit harvest beginning in 1947 until the end of the season in 1982. She also worked at the Peshastin-Dryden School district in the 'hot lunch program' for many years. She was later employed by the Das Meisterstuck Gift Shop in Leavenworth for seven years.
Lizzie deeply loved her husband and family. She never forgot that she came from the Hills of Tennessee to the Hills of Washington and she always valued the fact that the old ways of the mountains still existed in people helping people and that with hard work one could get ahead, these values she never forgot.
She loved her cocker spaniels and always enjoyed going to yard/garage sales looking for quality antiques.
She is survived by her husband, Millard Whaley of the family home. Son and daughter in law, Dan and Jexix Whaley of East Wenatchee. Daughter and son in law, Darla and Ted Ames of Bothell. Grandchildren, Chelsea Port, Bryan and Carl Whaley and Tim and Alisa Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 3 half sisters and two half brothers.
A Graveside Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Lizzie L. Whaley , will be conducted at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2003, at the gravesite in the Peshastin Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Brewer, officiating. Those wishing to make visitation may call at the Ward's Funeral Chapel Tuesday and Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Suite 101, Seattle, WA. 98125.
Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
