Carolyn L. Latham, 71, of Holland, OH and formerly of Sevierville, TN passed away on Thursday morning, April 10, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Center. Over the last few years she had suffered from and struggled with dementia, a series of strokes, and cancer. Born September 30, 1936, in Pemberville, OH to Clarence and Olga (Allwordt) Wegman, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph M. Latham, her son, Gene Deacon, her brother, Harlan Wegman, five brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law. She was a former bookkeeper for Latham’s SuperValue supermarkets in Ohio, and Latham’s IGAs in Sevier County, TN. After moving to Sevierville in 1974, she soon became known as a wonderful cook and popular hostess entertaining with husband Joe. A staunch supporter of the Sevier County Humane Society, she was an avid gardener, loved traveling, and always had a tender heart for any stray pet. Carolyn was currently a member of the Community of Christ Lutheran Church, Whitehouse, OH.
Known for her contagious smile, fun-loving spirit, and long telephone conversations, she will be sadly missed by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Elizabeth Deacon of Whitehouse, OH; step-daughter, Donna J. Koester, Sevierville, TN; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Den & Allison Latham of Hartsville, SC, and Craig & Felicia Latham of Sevierville, TN; grandchildren, Devin Koester and wife, Leslie, Adam Latham and wife, Jessica, Aaron Latham, Melissa Deacon, Christopher “CJ” Deacon, and Susan Geissberger; plus several great-grandchildren, especially Kent & Maci Koester of Sevierville, TN; sister, Ellen (Mike) Piraino; brothers, Willard (Joanie), Daniel (Judy Haas) and James Wegman; sisters-in-law, Donna Wegman, and Helen Latham Bales of Gatlinburg, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and thanks for the wonderful care she has received at the Heartland of Waterville Nursing Home, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carolyn’s name to the St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation of Maumee, OH or to the Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center, P.O. Box 4536, Sevierville, Tennessee 37864-4536.
Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Sunday, April 13th with funeral services in celebration of Carolyn’s life officiated by Pastor Arne Walker immediately following in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Entombment 10 AM Monday, April 14th in the Chapel Mausoleum of Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens in Pigeon Forge. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
