KEEBLER, JOANN - 1933-2012. Many years ago, when JoAnn Keebler's three grandchildren were babies and just becoming aware of the gentle red-haired lady who was their grandmother, the question of what they were to call her was discussed. "What do you want them to call you," asked her daughter, who was the mother of the three little ones. JoAnn had always been partial to "Nana", and she hoped they would call her that. And call her that they did. Through their childhood years, while they grew through adolescence and into adulthood, married, and had children of their own, Nana was there for them, supported them, saw them through good times and bad, and loved them, until her life came quietly to an end on September 27, 2012 at Physician's Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. JoAnn Faulkner was born in Knoxville on June 17, 1933 to Samuel Thomas and Pearl Myers Faulkner. Until her early teenage years, her family lived near Western and University Avenues. Her father then built a home in South Knoxville, where she spent much of the remainder of her life. She graduated from Young High School in 1951. JoAnn was married to William B. (Bill) Keebler at Hendron's Methodist Chapel by her father-in-law in 1954. A year later her daughter, Diane, was born, and shortly after that, the young family moved to Buena Park, California, where a son, Steve, was born in 1959.
In 1970 JoAnn moved her children back to Knoxville. In 1971 she began a long career in accounting with Knoxville's Community Development Corporation (KCDC), where she formed friendships that continued and grew stronger even after her retirement in 2001. But her happiest years were spent with her four grandchildren. She was there for their Christmases, their birthdays and other special events; she was with them on family vacations to the beach in North Carolina where she and her granddaughter, Sarah, loved to collect sea shells; and she was with them when they graduated from high school, married, and started their own families. As she grew older, it became difficult for her to travel and be as active as she had been, but one of her proudest moments came in 2007 when her youngest grandson graduated from Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island and came to visit her in his Marine Corps dress blues. Her passing after a long illness has saddened her family and friends but coupled with the sadness is the sure knowledge that she has returned home to other family and friends who have preceded her, and she was welcomed. She is survived by an older brother, H T Faulkner of Knoxville; her daughter, Diane; and son, Steve; her son-in-law, Dean Bundy; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Berry Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
