  Some records indicate Jan Dietrich Oudsteyn was born in Germany. Arrived 10 April 1911 on SS Rotterdam (http://www.unofficial.net/hal/rot4.html). Family tradition indicates Jan invented Oleo margarine but failed to take out patent. Oleo margarine was invented in Paris for the navy in Jul 15: 1869, which means he would had to have been 14. However, on page 798 of Chemical technology and analysis of oils, fats and waxes v. 1, 1913 by J. (Julius) Lewkowitsch is listed a patent by J. Oudsteyn. http://pulsix-w.sdv.fr/cyberlipid/glycer/glyc0009.htm Was living at 2700 North Sacramento Ave., Chicago, Illinois in 12 August 1922 according to son Wilhelm's ship manifest.
