Betty Marie Barger Cole Bailey, born on May 30th, 1926 in Fort Benning, Georgia, raised in Elizabethon, TN and a resident of Sevierville for over fifty years, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011. She was a faithful member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church, where she was the song leader and she enjoyed all types of arts and crafts including needlepoint, crocheting and ceramics. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Wanda Barger; husband, Jasper Stenson Cole, Sr.; grandson, John Newman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Glen Cole, Grace and Larry Wilson.
Survivors include her husband Jack M. Bailey; daughters and sons-in-law, Eugenia and James Newman, Margurite and Garry Sims; son and daughter-in-law, Jasper Stenson, Jr. and Laurie Cole; grandchildren, Susan (Russ) Buchanan, James Newman, Jason Newman, Kristi (Bryan) Atchley, Tasha (Zach) Wade, Shane (Jennifer) Sims and Jasper Stenson Cole, III; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Hubbard, John Newman, II, Harry and Georgi Buchanan, Ansley and Jordan Atchley, Gretchen and Chaz Wade, Lillian and Colin Sims; step-children, Judy (Charles) Ogle, Jackie (Tim) Pace, Jerry (Mollie) Bailey, Jenny Bailey; step-grandchildren, Anna Bailey, Amber (Rodney) Shelton, Andrew Bailey, Laura and Lydia Ogle, Caleb, Callie and Cade Pace; brothers and sisters and spouses, Lynda (David) Munsey, Eugene Barger, Jr., Mike Barger, Steve (Willa) Barger; and several nieces and nephews.
Although flowers will be accepted, additional donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, East Tennessee Chapter, 2270 Sutherland Avenue, Suite 202, Knoxville, TN 37919.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Coleman officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Saturday in Mt. Zion Cemetery for interment. Pallbearers will be Jason Newman, Jasper Stenson Cole, III, Bryan Atchley, Zach Wade, Shane Sims and Russ Buchanan. Jack and Betty Bailey, of Sevierville, celebrated their twenty-first anniversary on October 1. Mrs. Bailey is the former Betty Barger Cole. Reverend Bailey is the Pastor of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. Their children are Eugenia Newman, Margurite Simes, Jasper Cole, Judy Bailey-Ogle, Jackie Bailey Pace, Jenny Bailey. They have 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren
