Edna Woods Marshall of Sevierville passed from this life Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the age of 90. She was at home with her loving family. She was born in Greenback on October 30, 1920. She graduated from Greenback High School and attended Maryville College. Throughout her school years she lived in Greenback and after high school moved to Knoxville where she both worked and attended Knoxville Business College.
On March 15, 1942, she and her beloved husband of 68 years, Amos Marshall, were married. When Amos served his country during World War II, Edna worked at Alcoa to support the war effort. After the war, they settled in Oak Ridge and later moved to Sevierville in 1952 where she and her family lived for a number of years with her beloved mother-in-law Addie “Mom” Marshall and where her family continues to reside. Throughout her life, Edna was a vital and active member of the community and contributed to the quality of life which the city enjoys today.
She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Sevierville where she served in a variety of capacities. She served as church secretary and was a long time choir member. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, Emily Thomas Circle, and the United Methodist Women’s organization. She was actively involved in the annual fair booth, vacation bible school, and the UMYF organization.
In community life, she established the first chartered Cub Scout pack in the county and was a vital part of organizing the first Teen Board in the county in which she was actively involved for many years. She was also an active member and officer of the GFWC Manthano Club for 42 years and the Tuesday Evening Music Club. She helped start the first annual Music and Arts Festival in Sevierville, was a charter member of the Sevierville Garden Club, and contributed to many local beautification efforts. She also participated in local bridge clubs.
Throughout her life, Edna worked and held various positions. In addition to her position as church secretary, she was secretary at Sevierville Elementary School, worked at Silver Dollar City, and was actively involved in starting the first Title 1 program in the county.
Edna loved her family and friends. She was committed to her church and very proud of her community. She was always committed to beauty, education and service to the less fortunate in the city and county.
She is preceded in death by her parents Caswell B. and Ruth A. Woods, brother Richard C. Woods Sr., sisters Jonnie Woods Graybeal and Alma Geraldine Woods (infant), and brother-in-law Maurice A. Phillips.

Brother and sisters-in-law: Thomas D. Woods, Edith Cunningham Woods, Wilma Sims Woods all of Greenback
Sister: Martha Woods Phillips of Sevierville
Brother-in-law: Wayne Graybeal of Elizabethton

The family will receive friends 4:30– 6:30 PM Thursday with funeral to follow at 6:30 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Bobby Ely and Rev. Bruce Adams officiating. Family and friends will leave Atchley Funeral Home at 10 AM Friday for a 10:30 AM interment in Shiloh Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Harrison officiating.
