Army Staff Sgt. 1st Class Doyle D. Loveday, age 85, born September 26, 1919, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at his home in Knoxville after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer. He was retired from APAC after years of supervising the upkeep of heavy road machinery. He was a veteran of World War II where he worked as Motor Sergeant in Infantry Armed Co. teaching mechanics for Army motorcycles and all Army wheel vehicles. He earned two Bronze Stars. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents Jess and Josie Loveday, son Jimmy Loveday, sisters Audra Bounds, Alma Merritt, and Alene Russell.
Survivors:
Wife of 64 years: Dorothy Randles Loveday
Daughters and sons-in-law: Lois Chesney and husband Dwayne, Delpha Watson and husband John K. Jr., Linda Schubert and husband Charles (Chuck)
Sons: Dwight Loveday, all of Knoxville, and Dennis Loveday and wife Ruthie of Oliver Springs
Nine grandchildren
Thirteen great-grandchildren
Sisters: Ada Farmer and husband Jim, Arlzie White and husband Jim, Annette Bowling and husband John
Brothers: Carl Loveday and wife Wanda, Jess Ray Loveday

Funeral service 7 PM Thursday in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Bailey and Rev. Ronnie White officiating. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Friday for interment in Eastview Memorial Park in Strawberry Plains. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #104. Pallbearers will be grandsons Roger Chesney, Tommy Watson, Doyle Loveday, Jimmy Loveday, Jeffrey Hackler, Jason Lawson, and Kenneth Greene. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
