James Conner Norton, age 90 of Seymour, passed to his Heavenly home on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center following a brief illness. In his early years, James worked on the U.T. Cotton Farm on Government Farm Road in Knoxville, and was a truck driver for Kern's Bakery for 12 years and worked as owner-operator leased to Newman and Pemberton and various other companies through the years. James retired from ALCOA, where he also drove. James was the oldest member of the Seymour Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Leola Norton; parents, Raymond and Estelle Norton; sister, Louise McCarter; brother-in-law, Ollie Ellis; son-in-law, James Wilson; grandson-in-law, Travis Nease; and twin great granddaughters, Jozie and Zoie Norton.
Survivors:
Sons and Daughters-in-law: Allen and Patty Norton, Kenneth and Faye Norton;
Daughter: Kathy Wilson;
Grandchildren: Brad Norton, Chris Norton, Tammy Nease, Lorie Woods, and Jamie Pennington;
Great Grandchildren: Jordan, Colbie, and Brody Norton, Ty, Trey, and Taylor Nease, Stan and Sarah Pennington, and Jacob Woods;
Siblings: Mary Lee Ellis, Helen (Hubert) McCarter, Buster (Jimmie) Norton
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his precious friends and neighbors, James and Joyce hale, Phil White, Devon Patel and employees at White Star Market, George Morgan and employees of the Wendy's in Seymour.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday followed by a Masonic service and funeral service at 7 PM in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Stansberry officiating.
