Roy William “Bill” McInturff, age 94 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He was born in Chattanooga, TN, December 28, 1916, to Luther and Carrie McInturff. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pigeon Forge, where he enjoyed Sunday morning fellowship with many friends. In Chattanooga, he began his career with Bell South which took him to Oak Ridge during World War II, then to Maryville, and ultimately to Sevier County. Bill was a semi-professional baseball player in Oak Ridge and Maryville and was a member of the Oak Ridge team that won the 1948 American Semi-Pro Championship played in Battle Creek, MI. He also played semi-pro basketball and became an avid golfer as a member of the Gatlinburg Golf & Country Club for forty years.
He is survived by his wife Alliene B. McInturff; children Roy Allen McIntuff and wife Laquita, David Lee McInturff and wife Peggy Ann; grandsons Todd McInturff, Scott McInturff and wife Judy, Eric McInturff and wife Leslie; great-grandchildren Sean, Nicholas, Hannah, Sarah and Molly Grace McInturff; step-children Liz Fowler and husband Michael, Lloyd Chambers and wife Rheta; step-grandchildren Miranda Norsworthy and husband Lee and baby Lilly, TC Chambers and wife Danielle, and Kendyl Chambers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church-Pigeon Forge, Building Fund, PO Box 98, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 37863.
The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Thursday with funeral to follow at 4 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge. Rev. David Huskey and Rev. Bill Barnes will officiate. Family and friends will meet 2 PM Friday in Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery for graveside service and interment. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
