Mary Louise Ogle Rader, 89, of Pigeon Forge, passed away Friday, January 16, 2004, at Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 9, 1914, and raised at her family home place at Five Oaks Farm in Sevierville. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College; married Alvin C. Rader. The couple moved to Pigeon Forge where they raised 2 sons, Ron and Rick, and owned and operated The Pigeon Forge Shopping Center (an old time general store that carried almost everything) located across from the Old Mill on the banks of the Pigeon River. She loved to camp, hike and fish and loved people. Her husband spent 40 years employed in the National Park Service at Gatlinburg where she was able to enjoy many of her favorite interests. In later years, after the death of her husband Al, she spent time with her many friends playing bridge and fishing on Douglas Lake. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist, Pigeon Forge,Tennessee.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John W. Ogle and Blanche Wayland Ogle; brothers, Harry, John D. and Dr. Homer Ogle; husband, Alvin C. Rader; sister-in-law, Estalee Sims Ogle, nephew, Jerry W. Ogle, niece, Gloria Ogle Faulk.
She is survived by sons: Ron Rader and wife Jane, Rick Rader and wife Angela; grandchildren, Jeff and wife Nancy, Mitch and wife Jacquie, John and wife Mary Ellen; Holly, Kerry, and Ginger Rader; great-grandchildren: Davis, Caroline, Holt, Ellie Grace, and Magnolia Cille Rader.
Sisters-in law: Antionette Ogle, Irene “Babe” Ogle; nephews: Jim, David, Joe, Johnny Ogle; nieces: Joan Ogle Hill, Judy Stookesberry, Jennifer Ogle, and Sarah Ogle Valentine.
Besides her immediate family, Louise was blessed with and will be missed by a host of grand- nephews and nieces; caregivers, friends, staff at Mountain Brook Retirement Village, and Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center; her many friends and customers from “small town” Pigeon Forge of the 1940s thru the ‘70s; the Great Smoky Mountain National Park Service family; and recent special friends and caregivers Sheila Nicely and husband, Willie; Advanta Hospice, along with the many others that have touched her life.
The family will receive friends 12 PM – 2 PM Monday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville. Graveside service will follow at 3 PM Monday at Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens in Pigeon Forge with Rev. Doug Smith officiating.
