James Max McCarter, 83, of Madison, Mo., died May 1, 2001 at 3:09 p.m. in Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Mo.A native of Boyds Creek, his parents were Walter Ples and Cora Proffitt McCarter. He owned and operated McCarter's filling station in Madision for a number of years, and was also a farmer.He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Ogle McCarter.Survivors include his sons, Gary McCarter of Madison and LeRoy and wife Brenda McCarter of Mexico, Mo.; sisters, Dell Huskey of Tennessee and Phyllis Davenport of Florida; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Ralph McCarter of Knoxville, Vyril King of Sevierville, Gene McCarter of Knoxville, Beulah Mae McGhee of Luttrill, Tenn., and Alice Law of Peculiar, Mo.; and one granddaughter.Services were Sunday at Million-Taylor-Patton Funeral Home in Madison with the Rev. Weldon Frazee officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
