June 15, 1926 - December 3, 2017 Dortha Nell Byrd, 91, of Sevierville passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017. She was born on June 15, 1926 and was raised in Austin, Texas. Dortha was the Scrabble Champion in her circles. She was also an avid reader and bird watcher. Her favorite bird was the cardinal. Dortha was a lover of big band music and kept the nursing home staff dancing with her tunes. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy Clyde Byrd; her parents, Mary and Austin Ennis; and her brother, James “Sonny” Ennis. Dortha is survived by her son, Ken Byrd and wife, Sandra; daughters, Dianne Kuhnell and husband, Dan, Carol Doezema and husband, John, and Teena Byrd; grandchildren, Katie Byrd, Alex Byrd, Benjamin Doezema, Samantha Doezema, and Adam Doezema. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Tennessee PBS, 1611 E. Magnolia Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917. The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6 pm Saturday, December 30th at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
