DOROTHY MAE LOVEDAY BYRD, Age 77 – Dorothy Mae Loveday Byrd moved to her heavenly home on March 14, 2012. Born May 1, 1934 into a family of 11 children, Dot grew up in Dandridge. She married Ernest Byrd on July 2, 1949 and lived in the Carter Community in East Knoxville. Although she underwent her first heart valve replacement surgery at the age of 47 and her second in 1994, she enjoyed life fully and was always eager to travel, camp, attend sports events, and be with her friends and family in whatever activity they were involved with. She always willed herself to be active and healthy and never complained of her health issues. She was a member of Thorn Grove Baptist Church and loved to work with Vacation Bible School and Awana as long as she was able. She was a loving mother and grandmother, not only to her natural children and grandchildren, but was also “Mamaw Dot” to many, many others. Preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Samuel Byrd; daughter Sandra Lynn Byrd; parents, Jesse James and Rosie Mae Wise Loveday; brothers, Cecil Loveday, Thurman Loveday, and Robert Loveday; sister, Barbara Loveday Williams; father and mother in law, Willie Byrd and Millie Brewer Byrd. Family and friends will gather Sunday, March 18th at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge at 1:30pm and proceed together to Swanns Chapel Cemetery for a 2:00pm graveside service and interment.
