Mildred Sims Huff, age 86, died at her home in Sevierville, Tennessee, at Sunrise, Thursday, January 12, 2006. Born in Sevier County on Sims Road on June 11, 1919, she was one of the nine “Beautiful Sims Girls” born to the late John Marion Sims and Huldia Thomas Sims. She married Gavin Clint Huff on June 4, 1940 and had three children: Phyllis Baker Smith, John Hamilton Huff, and Kathryn Huff Yett. She dedicated her life to her husband and her children, providing them with boundless love and support. Her talents were many: She was a poet, an excellent seamstress, a renowned cook, an unparalleled hostess, a formidable bridge player and a “blue dog” democrat. She loved her friends and she loved to laugh but most of all she loved to love.
She was predeceased by her husband Gavin Clint Huff and five sisters: Clessie Seaton, Estalee Ogle, Lynn French, Myrtle Davenport, and Gladys Butcher. She is survived by her son John Hamilton Huff, and her daughter Phyllis Baker Smith and husband Rafe Smith, and her daughter Kathryn Huff Yett; by her brother Robert Sims and wife Fern Sims and three of her sisters; Ruby Fox, Ruth Hill, and Wilma Woods; by her five grandchildren: Paige Hill Rose, James Victor Hill, Jr. and wife Christa Hill, Clint Patrick Hill and wife Kathryn Seay Hill, Anthony David Huff, and Andrew Gavin Huff and wife Joy Huff; and by her four great grandchildren: Gavin Kress, Graham Hill, Seth Hill, and Cooper Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. William Baron in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville, Tennessee, on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Atchley Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens.
