Ila Evelyn Tarwater Thomas, 95, of Sevierville passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at home. She attended Luretta United Methodist Church and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Ila was recognized and received an award for being the oldest surviving member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was a housewife who loved her family dearly. Ila enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Thomas; parents, Oliver W. and Grace McPherson Tarwater; sister, Reba Tarwater Latham; brother, Lloyd Tarwater; and her infant brother.
Ila is survived by her son, James Edward and wife, Edna Thomas of Sevier Co.; daughters, Carol Ann and husband, Michael Galuska of Athens, Al, and Peggy L. Campbell of Sevier Co. and husband, the Reverend James V. Campbell currently at the U.S. Embassy Bagdad; grandchildren, Vickie Sue Thomas-Marion, Kelly Leigh Galuska, and Bryan Kevin Thomas; great-grandchildren, Skylar Thomas and Hailey Thomas; sisters, Mary and husband, Roy Huskey, Georgia Tarwater; sister-in-law, Elsie Tarwater; extended family members and special friends, Barbara Taylor, Julie Schultz, Dora and Dustin West, Helen Wrinkle, Aileen Cody, Elizabeth Mize, and Boyd and Joy Hopkins.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to Covenant Hospice for all their love and care.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Family and friends will leave in procession from Atchley Funeral Home at 9:45 AM Thursday to Gists Creek Cemetery for the graveside service and interment with Dr. Beverly Black officiating.
