Mrs. Ima Phillips, age 87 of Newport passed away January 5, 2007 at Newport Health and Rehabilitation. She was a retired employee of Bennington Pine and a member of Riverview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Ida Giles; husband, John Phillips; brothers, Cleo, Loki, Kris, and Oku Giles; sisters, Lela and Easter Giles, and son-in-law, David Baxter. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her daughter, Pat Baxter of Newport; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Josh and Gail Baxter of White Pine; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Davena and Randy Baxter-Baggett, of Chadsworth, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Rachel Dunn, David Dycus, and Tori Baxter. Additional survivors include several other family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Union Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion given to Ima. Arrangements by Costner-Maloy.
