Resided in Sevierville, TN
James Carroll "Rabbit" Graves, age 67 of Sevierville, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016.
Carroll owned and operated his own lawn service and was a veteran of the United States Army. He always went above and beyond to help anyone in need. He spent most of his lunch time at the BP Market entertaining the crowd. He loved gardening, and also camping with his family. On camping trips, he and his family would stay up late at night huddled around camping lights to play Rook until the bitter end of the competition. He was considered the home-made ice cream expert. He was an avid fisherman and tied his own flies. When word got out that he could tie a mean fly, people flocked to him from all over to buy them by the dozens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Reece Graves and Reba Louise Lindsey Freeman, grandparents, Coy and Zina Whaley Lindsey, and Andy and Lola Rogers Graves.
Survivors:
Sons: Andy Graves and wife Terah, and Daniel Graves;
Daughters: Missy Graves, and Tracy Helton and husband Scott;
Step-Daughter: Rita Laymon and husband Paul;
Grandchildren: Andrew and Aaron Burton, Braydon Helton, Cole and Connor Graves, and Taylor and Connor Laymon;
Brothers: Rick Hollifield and Mike Graves and wife Lynette;
We would like to thank his lifelong friends, Joe Ailey, his "BP Market" family and the late J.S. Eledge.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Thompson Cancer Center Staff who went above and beyond to take care of our daddy. Also, to Dr. Moreno and wife Jeannie, as well as Dr. Patterson and wife Tirree for being at our beck and call no matter the day or time. Also to the staff of Greenbrier Medical for helping us take care of our daddy as if he were their own. He loved each of you. Thank you to all of the patients of Greenbrier Medical for the care and concern you have shown and the many prayers that have been sent on his behalf.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic, 312 Prince St. Sevierville, TN 37862.
Funeral service 7 PM Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Hollifield officiating. The family will receive friends 4-6:45 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
