The Seymour Herald will be featuring a number of articles covering the history of Seymour.
Fortunately we have been contacted by Vicki Davenport, who's family history goes back for eight generations beginning with the founders of Gatlinburg, Billy and Martha Jane Huskey Ogle and Peter Huskey.
Davenport's father was Roy A. Davenport, who was born in Greenbrier before it became part of the Smoky Mountain National Park.
Her mother was Callie Hazel Cogdill Davenport.
Her grandparents were Ray Cogdill and Gladys Rayfield Cogdill; and Mack Davenport and Mary Whaley Davenport.
All of whom, except Ray, were also born in Greenbrier.
Vicki attended the old Chilhowee Primary School, and went on to graduate from Seymour High School, finishing with an Associate's Degree from Knoxville Business College.
She has two sons, Daniel Andrew Haun and Adam David Haun.
They still reside in Seymour. Vicki worked for the Sevier County Library System for eighteen years, and now works for Jewelry Television in Knoxville.
She wishes to preserve as much of the area's history as possible for the benefit of future generations.
Beginning with the Oct 25th Seymour Herald issue, we will print each week a part of the Seymour history that many have asked about, wondered about, and now will read about.
