Mildred Quay McCosh Rumbley entered the gates of heaven January 28, 2012. Sadly, she spent the last 10 weeks of her life in St. Marys Hospital in Knoxville gradually going down hill from kidney problems and congestive heart failure.
Mildred was born Feb. 1, 1926 at the homeplace (which still stands) on what was then Hendersons Chapel Road. She was buried on her birthday in Highland Memorial Cemetary in Knoxville. Mildred's parents were Jenny Lee and Brady McCosh. She had one sister, Vena Rhea, who predeceased her in 2009. Vena's sons, Rev. Jim Ellis, passed away several years ago and Mike (Sandy) Ellis, live in Sevierville.
Mildred was a member of Henderson's Chapel Church growing up and had changed her membership to Lincoln Park Baptist years ago. Currently, she had joined the family of Bethesda Christian Fellowship. Mildred had moved to Knoxville at the age of 18 and resided there ever since. She was employed at Woodruffs for many years and also Millers, downtown Knoxville.
Mildred married Howard Crowell Rumbley and they had one daughter, Donna, of Knoxville. Howard passed away in 1963. Mildred also leaves her three Grandsons, G. Jason (Karen), Nicholas Howard (Ashley), and Matthew Brayton (Michelle) all of Knoxville. In addition she had one great Grandson, Jacob. These boys were the lights of her life and she played a tremendous part in their upbringing. They loved hearing stories of Nana's childhood, life on the farm, and past tales of the Henderson Springs Hotels which were fond memories passed down by Mamaw. We all miss her terribly but look forward to being with her again in heaven one day.
