Johnnie Ballard Cardwell, age 95, of Sevierville passed away Friday, January 4, 2008 at Fort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home. She was born January 3, 1913 at 901 Prince Street in Sevierville, TN. She graduated from Sevier County High School and Carson Newman College. She wed John Cardwell, of Alcoa, which is where they made their home. Johnnie retired after 35 years of teaching school at Sevierville Elementary and Eagleton Elementary.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband, John R. Cardwell, parents John Sevier and Magnolia Jane Ballard, brothers, Cliff, Clyde, Claude, and George Ballard, sisters, Blanche Cox, Nelle Murphy, Anne Wishon, and Grace Davis
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Luther Yarberry and Mrs. Homer Ogle, both of Knoxville, Ron and Jane Rader, of Sevierville, who she thought of as her son and daughter. She left many nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Special friends: Susie Hickey, Frances Wade, of Sevierville, Bessie Mae Cochran and Lou Jarbo, of Maryville, plus many friends at Mountain Brook, formerly Markhill.
Special thanks to all her caregivers at Fort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home and Mountain Brook Village, and her special caregiver, Debbie Bell. The family would also like to thank Shelia Niceley at Mountain Brook Village.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Sevier County High School, Attn: Alumni Scholarship Fund, 1200 Dolly Parton Parkway, Sevierville, TN, or The Alzheimers Association, 2200 Southerland Ave., Suite # 102, Knoxville, TN 37919.
Family and friends will celebrate her life 11 AM Tuesday at a graveside ceremony at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville with Rev. Scott Andrews officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jeff, Mitch, and John Rader. Family and friends may call at their convenience 12 noon to 5 PM Monday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
