Carroll Lawson Fox, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009.
Mr. Fox was born on the family farm in Sevierville, Tenn. The product of a two-room schoolhouse (Middle Creek School), he graduated as salutatorian of Sevier County High School at 15 and was the youngest student graduated from the school at that time. He graduated at 19 from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and was the youngest ever to graduate from the College of Engineering at UT at that time.
He served in the U.S. Navy, was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church, a Steadfast Class member and retired after 45 years with the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga. He was instrumental in establishing the EPB Employees Credit Union; was a member of the Rotary Club of Chattanooga for 40 years; and volunteered for construction, was on the board of directors and served as president in 1999 for Chattanooga Habitat for Humanity. He also volunteered for mission trips to Honduras to Orphanage Emmanuel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Perryman Fox; parents, Grady and Aura Fox; and sister, Eileen Fox.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lawson and Betsy Fox, of Reno, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law, Shauna and Bill Oden, of Loudon, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Carter and Christopher Fox, of Reno; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rucker, of Hixson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bascom and Irene Fox, of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Dale and Wanda Fox, of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37402, or Habitat for Humanity, 1201 E. Main St., Chattanooga, TN 37408.
Visitation was held Monday, March 9 at First Baptist Church in the McEwen Chapel with the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. Gary Carver officiating.
Burial was at Chattanooga Memorial Park in Red Bank.
