Ruby Nell Noland Howard, age 82 of Sevierville passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Mrs. Howard was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church for fifty-nine years. She enjoyed attending church and loved the ladies in her Sunday School class. She served many roles in the church over the years ranging from Vacation Bible School Director to Sunday School teacher. Ruby was a generous servant of God. She had a sweet smile, a loving heart, and a kind spirit. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She will be missed by all.
Ruby graduated from Pittman Center High School in 1949 and East Tennessee State College in 1955. She was a dedicated teacher who taught thirty years in the Sevier County School System. Most of her teaching career was spent at New Center School. She was recognized by the Knoxville News Sentinel with the Golden Apple Award in 1985 and was inducted in the Sevier County Education Hall of Fame in 2012.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents Wiley and Edith Myers Noland; her brothers: Carl, Everette, Virgil, and Jimmy Reed "JR", and baby sister, Ivalee. She is survived by her husband of 59 years: Jack Howard; Three daughters: Carol Eatman, Nancy Sims and husband Jeff, and Jackie Hounshell and husband Bob; Grandchildren: Jon and wife Edie, Justin, Jessica and Mark Eatman; Tyler, Jackson, and Lauren Hounshell; Sisters: Betty Tiller and husband Ken; Nina Manning and husband Lawrence; Uncle: Roy Myers and special sister-in-law: Lucille Noland. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Mark and Justin Eatman, Tyler and Jackson Hounshell; nephew Keith Manning; and great nephew Taylor McLoud.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family members who prayed and visited faithfully during Mrs. Howard's illness. A special thank you is also extended to Girling Home Health Care.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2776 Bethel Church Road, Sevierville 37876.
The family will receive friends in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville on Wednesday, April 30 from 4:30 – 7:00 PM with the funeral service immediately following at 7:00 PM officiated by Reverend Chris Kirby. Interment will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 1 with Reverend Rick Loveday and Rev. Chris Kirby officiating. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
