• Notes

  The 1850 census of Franklin Township, Armstrong County, shows George W. Mateer aged 21 living in the household of his father John Mateer. In 1860 George W. Mateer aged 32 years was a farmer in Wayne County, Illinois, in Range 5 South, Township 3 East; his household included a wife Margaret E. aged 28, two sons Ira G. aged 4 and John R. aged 2, also E. Rose, a carpenter aged 26 and John Montgomery aged 18, a farm laborer. It is not clear when or under what circumstances Washington Mateer returned to Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.
