Elder David James Hembree age 77 of Kingston, TN., formerly of Townsend, TN, went home to be with our Lord on November 11, 2001 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He ordained into into the ministry as a Primitive Baptist preacher in 1955 and over the years he faithfully served as pastor at several churches in the Tennessee and Kentucky area, most recently serving as pastor at Oakwood Primitive Baptist Church in Knoxville, until his parting this life. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and while he will be missed dearly, he as now achieved his most heartfelt desire, which is to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Ellen Hembree, first wife, Trula, infant son, David Lewis Hembree, sisters, Mildred Peacock, Francis Davis, Edith Walker, Gay Lee and grandson, David Duane Hembree.
Survivors: devoted and loving wife: Joyce M. Hembree of Kingston. Son: Mike Hembree of Florida. Sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel and Sandy Hembree of Florida, Jerry and Heidi Hembree of Maryville. Daughter: Jessie Sensaboy of Maryville. Daughters and sons-in-law: Freda and R.V. Hamby of Powell, Robin and Charlie Pickrell of New Orleans, LA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Clarence and Cindy Hembree, Hubert and Margaret Hembree all of Maryville, Chester and Edith Hembree of Rockford. 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Elder Steve Duff of Lebanon, Ohio officiating. Interment 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Tuckaleechee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Townsend. Family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
