John Henry Green obituary
- [S142] Newspaper Article, The Wenatchee World (WA), 13 Aug 2003.
Leva M. Valentine, 88, of Wenatchee, WA. and a 57 year resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Monday morning, August 11 2003, in the Highline Care Center in East Wenatchee.
She was born Leva M. Green on November 12, 1914 to Milas and Nancy H. (Smelcer) Green in Sevier County Tennessee. She grew up and received her early education in the Smokey Mountains of Sevier County.
On May 29, 1933 she married Theodore R. Valentine in Sevierville where they made their first home. In 1942, Theodore moved his young family to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he worked in the ship yards during World War II. In 1946 they moved to Peshastin where they made their home and raised their children and Leva worked in the fruit warehouse during harvest season for many years. Her husband was an equipment operator on construction jobs and many times his job took him outside the immediate area, but Leva always packed up the family, so they could be together.
Following her husbands death in 1978 she moved to East Wenatchee to make her home with her daughter. Leva traveled back and forth between the Wenatchee Valley and Eastern Tennessee for many years, dividing her time between the areas she loved.
Leva was an excellent seamstress and loved making stuffed animals with family and friends. She had a perfect knack for making and sharing her wonderful peanut brittle she would make during the Christmas season. She loved her family immensely and always enjoyed family function and yard sales.
She is survived by a daughter and son in law, Ina and Sam Stevens of Wenatchee. Three sons and daughters in law, Fred and Carol Valentine of East Wenatchee and Larry and Jalene Valentine and Bruce and Kim Valentine all of Peshastin. Two sisters, Rosa Campbell of Lebanon, Tennessee and Ponhee Whaley of Peshastin. Two brothers, Berry Greene of Everett and John Green of Sevierville, Tennessee. Fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 1978 and one son, Raymond Valentine in May 2003.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Leva M. Valentine, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday morning, August 11, 2003 in the Peshastin United Church of Christ, 8455 Main St.; Peshastin, Wa. 98847 with Pastor Bob Jackson, officiating.
