December 11, 1933 - June 17, 2016
Truel Hollis McCaulley, 82, passed away in his home on Friday, June 17, 2016 surrounded by his family. Truel graduated Salutatorian from Walland High School Class of 1951. After marrying Betty, he joined the Army, eventually being stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Later, he was the owner/operator of M-N-R Auto Parts for close to 30 years. Retirement gave him more time to enjoy time with his wife, family and friends on their farm. Having been ill for a number of years Truel charmed many of his doctors, nurses and CNA’s with his Hillbilly Backscratchers and evolving versions of his railroad spike grasshoppers, ants, and spiders. When they would ask his date of birth he proudly replied “12/11/33, Cades Cove, TN.” He and his family are especially grateful to his Nephrologist, a kind and gentle soul, Dr. Ross Nesbitt, for his respect and honesty throughout the last year. Survivors include: His Sweetheart of 63 years, Betty Brickey McCaulley; Daughter & Son-in-law, Lisa & Dennis Whitehead; Grandson, Houston Whitehead; Daughter, Lara McCaulley; Sister, Maycle McCaulley Yearout; lifelong best friend, Virgil “Bud” Everett. Preceded in death by: Mother & Father, Dulcie Abbott McCaulley & Millard McCaulley; Sisters, Glenda Yvonne McCaulley and Inez McCaulley Adams. His family will have a private viewing, but friends are invited to sign the guest book and look at photos of memories of his life on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 9:00 am until 3:00 PM. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 20, 2016 at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: National Kidney Foundation serving East Tennessee, 5201 Kingston Pike, Suite 6-130, Knoxville, TN 37919 or the American Diabetes Association, 211 Center Park Drive, Suite 310, Knoxville, TN 37922.
