Irene Maples Mize, age 92 of Gatlinburg, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital following a long and rich life.
Mrs. Mize was employed by Hattie Ogle McGiffin as her personal assistant for 45 years. She was a loving and faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Gatlinburg where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for 35 years. She was the daughter of the late W.P. and Gertrude Maples. Her husband, George S. Mize, preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Freda and Jackie.
Survivors include her sister, Blanche M. Ghormley; half-sister, Lillian McCarter Maney and her daughters, Nancy(Francis) Drake and Sally (Wayne) Eckard; nieces, Lynda G. McCredie and husband Roger, Teresa G. Eller and husband Richard, Donna VanArsdale, Sharon Hoffman; nephews, Jimmy Mize and wife Joanne, Bill Mize and wife Debbie; beloved caregivers, Annie Craig, Ruth Rupard and Melody Craig.
The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Saturday with funeral service to follow at 4 PM at First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg. Rev. Larry Dial and Rev. Jane Taylor officiating.
