George S. Mize, age 89, a life long Sevier County resident and descendant of the first European Sevier County settlers, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center.
He was the owner and proprietor of the Village Center in Gatlinburg from 1956 to 1997 and a 20 year Member of the Sevier County Bank Board having started working in the bank as a part-time janitor in high school.
He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatlinburg and a past member of the Council of Ministries.
George was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army in the South Pacific. He served on the Shiloh Cemetery Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Mize, brother Jimmie W. Mize, sisters, Ola Albert, Martha Trotter, and Blanche Mize.

Funeral service 7 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg with Rev. Eric Rieger and Rev. Larry Dial officitiating. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Saturday at Shiloh Cemetery for graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg.
