- Captain William Montgomery served in the War of 1812, and this act is inscribed on his grave marker in Shiloh Cemetery. The Sevier County Court Minute Book, 1856-1867 records that on 2 March 1857 the State of Tennessee issued Land Warrant No. 45506 for 80 acres of land to G. W. Montgomery, B. H. Montgomery, and W. W. Montgomery, William's sons, "in consideration of the Service of William Montgomery deceased, who served as captain in the War of 1812."
He lived on the West Fork of Little Pigeon River in Sevier County, Tennessee where Alexander Montgomery settled.
Sevier County Heritage lists birth as 12 January 1788.
