- George was born in Canton, NC. When his family moved to Alexandria, Virginia he
attended the schools of the city until he was seventeen years of age. He then
enlisted in the Army, this was in 1942, during World War II. George was
honorably discharged in 1946. During his service he received a batlefield
commission. After the war George returned to Alexandria, Virginia and graduated
from high school in 1947, after graduation he worked as a stock clerk and sales
manager for the Temple Foundry.
In 1948 George become an Officer with the Alexandria, Virginia Police Dept. and
was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1956 he became Dept. Hack Inspector and
remained at this assignment for seventeen years. During his tenure as a police
officer George was awarded eleven commendations and was absent from work a total
of six times. On each of these occasions he was ordered to stay home by a
doctor. Over the years he accumulated over 3,000 hours of unused sick leave.
George is buried at Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
