David R. Cole, age 73 of Rogersville went home to be with his Lord December 21, 2006 surrounded by his family. He was saved in France in 1959. He was an active member of Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother and will be sadly missed. He proudly served his country for 22 years. He retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW2). While serving combat duty in Korea and Vietnam Wars he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a 32 degree Mason and a member of Overton Masonic Lodge #5 F&AM. To greet him in heaven were his parents, Rex and Berta Cole; father and mother-in-law, Dude and Marie Burton; daughter, Renee; grandson, Brandon and great-grandson, Tyler. Those waiting to join him are his loving wife, Virginia; children, Michael, Rhonda and husband Danny, Bryan and wife Tammy, Sam, Jessie and husband Marty, Denise and husband Gary, Rex and wife Missy; grandchildren, Bridget, Jeremiah, Heather, Keith, Ashley, Ginny, Buddy, Gabriel, Justin, Sam, Cody, Addison, Mallie; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Cole (Helen); sisters, Brenda Strange (Dood), Darlene Davis (Bob); brother-in-law, Tom Burton (Kathy); sister-in-law, Betty Jo Leyda (George). The family will receive friends Saturday, December 23, 2006 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Masonic services will begin at 1 p.m. followed by funeral services with his son, Rev. Rex Cole and Pastor Sonny Davis officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard and The Tennessee Army National Guard will conduct Military Honors at Dean Cemetery following the funeral services. Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville is serving the Cole family.
