Johnson, Walter B., age 84, of Seymour, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011. He was a graduate of Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy graduating in 1947. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from May 6,1944 until July 4, 1946 serving during World War II. He was a Signalman Third Class and saw action in the Pacific Theatre. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1948 serving until 1955 on the Great Lakes and achieved the rank of Third Mate. He attended the University of Tennessee from 1947 through 1951 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State College in 1955. Walter worked for State Farm Insurance Company in Murfreesboro from 1956 until 1961 and then worked as a Claims Adjuster for State Farm Insurance in London, Kentucky from 1961 until 1962. He graduated from Nashville School of Law in 1960. He became a member of the Bar of the State of Tennessee in 1962 then began the private practice of law in Knoxville until retirement in December of 2004. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Goldia Johnson; son, David Burnett Johnson; sisters, Agnes Houser, Mildred Lane, and Bobbie Johnson; still-born twin brother, Walker Johnson; parents, Willie C. and Bryan Fletcher Johnson. He is survived by his son, Walter "Butch" Johnson and wife, Pam; daughter, Celeste Anne Schroeder and husband, Robert Wulforst; daughter-in-law, Laura Johnson; grandchildren: Ruth Armstrong-Durant, Anna Rose Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Ricky Schroeder, David Schroeder, Aaron Gooch and Bosk Murphy; great-granddaughter, Meren Durant; brother, Kay Johnson and wife, Dorothy; brother-in-law Billy Burnett and wife Mary; and his devoted legal assistant of many years, June Cooper. Interment will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 PM Central Time at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro. Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, with his daughter, Rev. Celeste Anne Schroeder officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday at 3:00 PM Central Time at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
