He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Edna Proffitt; son, Lynn Proffitt; brothers, Joe Proffitt and Charles Proffitt; and sister Ima Kate Williams. He is survived by his sons, Michael Proffitt and Marty (Judy) Proffitt; daughter Janice (Don) Lindsey; daughter-in-law, Betty Proffitt all of Sevierville; brother, Roy Proffitt; grandchildren, Letisha (Tony) Hall, Kayla Proffitt, Trevor (Sam) Proffitt and Chelsea Proffitt; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Hall, Emily Hall and Maggie Mae Proffitt; also several other family and friends. Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the Proffitt Cemetery, with Rev. Ben Whitted officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Proffitt Cemetery Fund, 1332 Rocky Flats Road, Cosby, TN 37722.
